Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!

Today is the celebration of another very special nation, as the 1st July 2020 is Canada's anniversary!

Now, for those who didn't know. Canada Day is celebrated in much the same way as our own Independence Day, with parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks and free music events, all to celebrate the anniversary of July 1, 1867, when the three provinces of Nova Scotia, Canada, and New Brunswick were united into a single country, which they called Canada.

The celebration was originally named Dominion Day. However, when Canada become completely independent of England in 1982, the name was changed to Canada Day for the following year's celebrations.

The old time radio series, The Adventures of Danny Marsdon appears to be Canada's biggest radio export, and features a reporter for the Mid City Sentinel newspaper. His adventures are based on articles in the newspaper that would have challenged the social ills at the time in Canada.

I've also added a link to a special page I've put together, which contains all of the Canada produced or inspired shows that I can find, including Danny Marsdon, The Happy Gang, a Jack Benny show, recorded on location in Canada, and a short series called Nazi Eyes on Canada, which was an alternate look at an occupied Canada during the last World War.

Canada Day Shows

Do you know of any other shows or series which were produced in Canada? I'd love to know about them, so please do feel free to email me on ned@rusc.com, or comment below to share your wisdom with everyone.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
