Granby's Green Acres

Granby's Green Acres

"It’s a funny thing about people; farm people work hard so they can save enough money to move to the city and city people work hard so they can make enough money to move to a farm. This is the case of John Granby who was a city bank teller and gave up his job to move his family to the country".

This situation comedy was aired by CBS during the summer of 1950 and stars Gale Gordon as John Granby and Bea Benaderet as his scatterbrained wife Martha. Both Gale and Bea had played husband and wife team together before in the Lucille Ball situation comedy My Favorite Husband in which Gale played the part of Bank Manager Rudolph Atterbury and it was from this association that Granby's Green Acres was borne.

Although their names changed their basic amusing and likeable characters remained the same. Along with Gale and Bea, Louise Erickson starred as their daughter Louise Granby and Parley Baer's plays the role of Eb the hired hand and delivers some great comedy replies. When gullible rookie farmer Granby says to him, "This is some big weed what’s the name of it?" he replies “Corn!”

There were 9 episodes in total and we have four of them available to RUSC. If you have any others that you would like to share then please contact ned@rusc.com.

Happy listening my friends,
