Fire Up the Barbecue

Fire Up the Barbecue

In a recent poll, the thing you guys and gals most liked to do with your own Dad on Father's Day, was to have a barbecue.

My Dad and I used to love to catch the game together, but then we'd usually have the grill on too, so that we had some sustenance to get us through!

Barbecue's have long been a popular choice, and remain one of the most traditional methods of cooking in the United States. There aren't even really any constraints on what you can or can't cook on there - and we have had some real amazing food over the years - as well as some real disasters! I'd love to hear about your best and worst barbecue moments!

In old time radio, the trusty barbecue was pretty popular with our usual heartwarming comedy series too. You can join Fibber McGee and Molly, Father Knows Best, Our Miss Brooks, or Burns and Allen. Listen to these shows today for a good laugh:-

Burns and Allen - Live Hog
Alice's cousin, Nellie, is sending them a hog, so George invites all of their friends over to have a barbecue.

Fibber McGee - Wimple Helps With Barbecue
Fibber's building a brick barbecue in the garden with Mr Wimple, and as you would expect, things don't go to plan.

Father Knows Best - Bad Barbecue
Jim has promised his district supervisor and family barbecued steak. Margaret suggests buying a barbecue but Jim wants to have the best brick built barbecue.

Our Miss Brooks - Mr Boynton's Barbecue
Miss Daisy Enright is the frenemy of Our Miss Brooks, and whilst Eve has been ill this past week, Daisy has been taking every opportunity to get closer to Mr Boynton...

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
