Easter Old Time Radio Shows

Easter Old Time Radio Shows

For some people this time of year is special for religious reasons - of course! For others, religion has taken a back seat to chocolate and Easter bunnies, but no matter whether it is religion or chocolate (or both) we've lined up a whole heap of wonderful old time radio delights for your entertainment.

Being a big fan of a sweet treat, I'm admittedly a bit of a glutton at this time of the year. Are you?

Whilst I was munching on one of Joy's delicious Easter cupcakes last night, I discovered a radio show from Columbia Workshop, which advised to listen in darkness.

Every once in a while, I find that a show comes along which really connects, and so with my intrigue peaked, so I turned down the lights, and listened to what turned out to be one of the most poignant dramas of the last days of Jesus.

The Terrible Meek by Charles Rand Kennedy.

The story begins at the foot of the cross of Jesus, and is really confined to conversations between Jesus' mother Mary, and the army captain. It is during the night after Jesus' death, (hence the request for darkness), and Mary is at the depth of her
grief, bewailing the death of her son. Then the captain, in a strange voice, begins to tell her that her son is not dead.

To her amazement he makes an unbelievable speech which includes these words:
I tell you, my good woman, this dead son of yours,
Disfigured, shamed, spat upon,
Has built a kingdom this day that shall never die.
The living glory of Him will forever rule it.
The earth is His and He made it.
He and His brothers have been molding and making it through all the long ages.
They are the only ones
Who ever really can possess it.
Not the proud, not the idle, not the wealthy,
Not the vaunted empires of this world
... No!
Something has happened here upon this hill today,
Something that will shake all the empires and kingdoms of this world into dust.
The earth is His, the earth is theirs, and they made it!
The meek, the terrible meek,
The fierce, agonizing meek.
Are about to enter into their inheritance!

I know that the show won't be of interest to everyone, but it connected with something inside me and so I wanted to highlight it for you. I think it demonstrates Easter as the central thrust of history.

However, that's not all we have for you this Easter! As well as the new shows going live over the weekend, Joy and I have also picked out what we think are the best Easter radio shows for you, with dramas, music and variety with Avalon Time, and slapstick comedy in the Life of Riley.

Click here to see which shows we picked out that you can download now, or listen to online...

Alternatively, if you'd like to listen to a non-stop collection of Easter old time radio shows, check out the RUSC Easter Radio Station.

Whatever it is that you choose to do this weekend, both Joy and I would like to wish you a Happy Easter!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
