Crafty Old Wrinklies

Crafty Old Wrinklies

Our national Thanksgiving holiday is a wonderful time for us to rejoice with our family who we don't get to see as often as we'd like - and this crafty old chap has an idea to make that happen!

An old man calls his son on the other side of the country and tells him:

"Your mother and I have something to tell you, but we don't really want to discuss it over the phone. We're just telling you because you're our oldest son, and we thought you ought to know. We've decided to split up and get a divorce."

"What do you mean?" asks the son, horrified at this news. "You've been married for over 50 years!"

"Sorry, but there it is." says the old man.

"I don't understand," says the son, "Why would you want to get a divorce after all this time?"

"We don't want to talk about it, because it's far too painful. We've made our minds up, and that's it!" says the old man. "We just want you to call your brothers and sisters and pass on the news to spare us any further grief."

The son insists on talking to his mother, but the old man tells him there's nothing he can do.

"Just hold on Dad," says the son, "don't do anything rash! Next week is Thanksgiving, and I'll be taking time off work anyway, so I'm going to come straight over to you and help you get this whole thing sorted out."

Over the next hour, all the other children call saying they too are going to come over to help sort things out as well.

After all this, the old man turns to his wife and says, "Well there we are. It worked like a charm! But what are we going to do to get them to come over to us for Christmas, and Thanksgiving next year?!"
