Claudia Morgan

Claudia Morgan

Claudia Morgan was born Claudeigh Louise Wuppermann on 12th June 1911 in Brooklyn, New York and was the only child of actor Ralph Morgan (Raphael Kuhner Wuppermann) and his wife Daisy.

Like her father Ralph Morgan and her uncle Frank Morgan (Francis Wuppermann) most famously known for his role of the wizard in The Wizard of Oz, she went in to acting and changed her name to Claudia Morgan.

In 1929 at the age of 18 she played her first Broadway acting role in a play entitled Top o’the Hill and went on to appear in a good many more Broadway plays throughout the 1930’s.

The only leading film role that she had was in 1937 in That’s My Story in which she played along side her father Ralph Morgan who later became president of the Screen Actors Guild.

Fortunately for us she was most active on radio and regularly appeared in such soap opera’s as Against the Storm, David Harum, Joyce Jordan MD, Lone Journey and Right to Happiness.

Of course her most famous role was that of the leading lady Nora Charles in The Adventures of the Thin Man, who she portrayed throughout the series from 1941 until 1950.

In 1954 the comedy detective series The Abbot Mysteries, which originally ran in 1945-47 and, was similar to The Thin Man was revived starring Claudia Morgan along with Les Tremayne who had been her co-star in The Adventures of the Thin Man.

Claudia Morgan also occasionally appeared in other old time favorites such as Inner Sanctum, Grand Central Station, On Stage, Dimension X, Quiet Please and Radio City Playhouse.

I have managed to find a Radio City Playhouse show entitled The Wisdom of Eve, which she starred in and will add it to RUSC on Saturday 16th July for your enjoyment.

On a personal level Claudia Morgan remained childless though she was married four times. She died on September 17th 1974 at the age of 63.

Happy listening my friends,
