Broadway Is My Beat

Broadway Is My Beat

This week I've discovered a few 'odds and ends' of series that weren't live on RUSC.

Today's big find was an episode from The Shadow, called Circle of Death

Then I discovered two shows from Broadway Is My Beat which have also been missing from the 167 episodes already existing on the site.

Broadway Is My Beat is a series which has always been well-loved on RUSC, and by old time radio fans the world over. In the RUSC charts page, you'll see that the series consistently appears in the top five most popular detective shows.

The thirty minute episodes were produced and directed by Elliot Lewis, and starred Larry Thor (pictured) as Danny Clover, the hard-nosed NYPD detective who worked homicide "from Times Square to Columbus Circle - the gaudiest, the most violent, the lonesomest mile in the world..."

Detective Danny Clover tirelessly patrolled the city streets, often being called out to the strangest murder scenes. He truly loved his beat though, and he instilled fear into any hoodlums and villains that threatened the peace.

Morton Fine and David Friedkin were the dynamic duo who wrote the series, but this was only one of their many accomplishments as a writing duo during the Golden Age of Radio. The two also wrote scripts for SuspenseBold Venture, Crime Classics and On Stage, before moving on to collaborate on scripts for film and television.

I can't tell you how thrilled I was to discover these missing episodes. If there are any other series we have on RUSC where you believe we may have some shows missing, do let me know, as I'll happily search the archives to see what I can find.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
