A quiz to take you back in time

A quiz to take you back in time

You may have noticed that there have been quite a few juvenile shows added over the past few weeks. I know from the e-mails we receive that many members have fond memories of rushing home from school to listen to a favorite serial. Hopefully, listening again to some of these magical childhood shows will take you back to those simpler days when things seemed a lot slower and far less complicated. It's easy to look back now, several decades later, and think that everything for a child then was far better than it is now, but I'm sure it won't do you any harm to put on your rose-tinted spectacles for an hour, put on one of your favorite childhood shows and indulge in a little audio time travel.

To remind you of some of those fantastic shows we have devised a little quiz to get your memory into action. Most of these shows mentioned in the quiz you will have already heard recently on RUSC but there are a few new ones to the site. This new quiz has a new format and includes a “Glory Board” that lists the top scores. The score is worked out on two factors; how long it takes you to answer all the questions and how many wrong letters you enter into the letters grid. It's all very simple stuff and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time at all.

Completely new to RUSC this month is The Fire Fighters written by Frank Jones. It is an excellent children’s show which as well as portraying the true to life stories of America’s unsung heroes sends out a serious message on the dangers of fire. At the end of each episode Fire Chief Bob Cody presents a special assignment for all junior fire fighters, which all youngsters would do well to heed. It could save their lives one day.

Another new children’s show to RUSC this week is Big Jon and Sparkie. Big Jon being Jonathan Arthur who not only created and played the part of the leading character Sparkie but also his fantasy friends Mayor Plumpfront and Ukey Betcha as they embarked on wonderful adventures. When it was first heard nobody knew what Sparkie looked like so after numerous requests from his fans Jon Arthur commissioned a comic artist to compile a picture of Sparkie based on what his fans imagined.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
