There are many good correspondence schools with conscientious instructors to match. The students complete assignments and mail them in for criticism and encouragement. Silas Butler who is 48, is one of many students whose work is scrutinised by an instructor called George Munroe. George does not know Butler personally, so the news is to him, only odd, but to Mrs Butler's friend Judith Palmer, it is tragic and bitter.
