Linda Munson asks Dr Christian to talk to her mother Linda about letting her go and live her own life. Linda knows her place is with Alan now. She is twenty-one and is no longer a child but feels her mother still treats her as one. But Linda's mum Helen doesn't want her to stay with Alan as he has been badly wounded in the war and she fears her daughter will be saddled with his tragedy for the rest of her life. She cannot understand that Linda's happiness lies with being with Alan at any cost.
