Simon Templar is quietly enjoying his meal in a restaurant when a young lady sits at his table and asks him to look longingly into her eyes. Her name is Alice Parks and she’s trying to attract the attention of Marvin Hickerson who’s in the restaurant with another woman. Alice Parks was practically engaged to Hickerson who recently sold his business for $50,000 and has come back to the city to be a private detective. He has now met this woman and has drawn all the $50,000 out and is walking about with it on his person and Alice is concerned for him. Unbeknown to her the table she sat at was Simon Templar’s, the Saint, “the Robin Hood of modern crime”, so she asked him if he would help her watch out for Marvin.
