Mrs Dennis and her husband Luther lived a long way from help and Mrs Dennis had to watch her husband die from gangrene in a broken leg. When Captain Lee Quince and Sergeant Gorce and Flint arrived they buried her husband and advised her to leave the land, as it was no place for a woman on her own. Mrs Dennis had no intention of leaving the home where her husband was buried.
