Cyrus Taggart is a controlling man whose enterprises consist of several railroads, banks and finance companies. He turns up in town looking for his 24-year-old daughter who he intends to take back to New York with him. Matt Dillon informs him she is of an age when she can do as she pleases and must have her reasons for running away in the first place.
