What Monarch Became A Citizen Of the US

Broadcast: July 5, 1938
Added: Jul 03 2018

This week's question resulted in hundreds of listeners writing into Linda Lee with the answer. They told her that the only foreign queen who ever became a citizen of the United States, was Queen Liliʻuokalani, who was the first queen and last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii, ruling from January 29, 1891, until the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii on January 17, 1893. She settled in Boston and became a naturalized US citizen.
