Helen Hayes reprises her role as Maggie Wylie in the play written by J M Barrie. The story takes place in Scotland, where her family, fearing the plain girl may become a spinster, finances young John Shand's studies in return for his agreement to marry her in five years. Maggie helps to guide his career without his realizing it, and he honors his commitment, however he doesn't love her as she does him. Will he ever learn to appreciate Maggie's true worth?
