Matilda stood at the window looking apprehensively at the old burial ground at the foot of the hill. A little group of people from the village down the road stood in twos and threes around the open grave of Captain Heaton Haskell. Matilda always liked to stand at the window like this watching through the dingy lace curtains yes today especially with Captain Heaton being laid to wake.
