Back in 1838, Jane Swisshelm witnessed her first ever flogging of a slave, and from that moment of sheer human torment, she resolved to never ever stand by and allow it to happen again. Out of Jane's resolution that day, came a famous anti-slavery newspaper, under her own editorship. It was a journal published in hot, clamorous anger - and with that came trouble, of course.
