Summer was a busy time in the Yukon. Not only did the prospectors take advantage of the mild weather and the long hours of daylight, but also the lawless element became more active. One of the men who had no respect or fear of the law was big, tough, Jack McGraw. The McGraw gang was fast becoming notorious throughout the Yukon territory. In Selkirk they'd openly held up a crowded cafe. The night before the boat from Selkirk docked at the settlement of Indian creek, Jack McGraw and his gang held up the express office, where large shipments of gold were ready to be put on the boat.
