Darkness was closing in as Sergeant Preston of the Northwest Mounted Police drove his dog team toward one of the mail cabins on the way to Dawson. As he neared the cabin he saw smoke drifting out of the chimney but there was no sign of the mail team as he stopped his dogs in front of the door…
