Shakespeare wrote of star-crossed lovers, however many of O'Henry's lovers only had their wire's crossed, which was probably because neither the telegram nor the telephone existed during the life of the Bard of Avon. Whatever it is that crosses young lovers - ancient, medieval or modern - it is the stuff of storytelling. This is a story that deals with fate, so we shall ask the master himself to tell it.
