Throughout our American history, the man in uniform has played an important and outstanding role in providing for the safety and well-being of our people, not only in time of war, but also when destructive forces and elements threaten lives and property in peacetime. Whether it's a flood in Ohio, a hurricane in New England, or an explosion in Texas, the men of our armed services are ready to lend that type of unselfish assistance which has been called above and beyond the line of duty. These qualities of courage and unselfishness are their inheritance to us all.
