There is a certain excitement in meeting new people, who may (or may not!) turn out to be new friends. Friendship, not to be confused with acquaintanceship, requires so many parallels of tastes, viewpoints, needs, backgrounds and the like, that it's quite remarkable that we see as much of it as we do.
