Millions of years ago in America’s pacific northwest a giant glacier blocked the Colombia River on it’s way to the sea. That mighty stream forced to find a new outlet cut a chasm 600 feet deep, 2 mile wide and 50 miles long. Many hundred of years passed and the ice melted and the river returned to its original channel. So it was that early settlers in the state of Washington found the high riverbed a long deep valley, which they named the Grand Coulee.
