When Little Sherry O'Rourke arrived in White Horse from the States, Sergeant Preston found himself confronted with a difficult problem. Sherry's father was dead, and her mother, who was ill and penniless in the charity ward of a Seattle hospital, had sent the little girl north to the Yukon to live with her grandfather, old Amos Benbo. Amos was a notorious hermit who owned a small mining claim about twenty miles east of White Horse.
