India, when Mr Rudyard Kipling lived there, worked there, and dreamed there almost a century ago, was a country of some three hundred million people, and more than twice that many legends, myths, fables and romances. It was a place which provided a feast for the imagination , and for many people that was the only feast they would ever know.
