As Sergeant Preston rounded a bend on the Yukon trail, he saw a mail sled stop just ahead of him. There was a man kneeling beside the sled, and as he heard the Sergeant's team, he turned toward the oncoming sled. The man's beard was frosted white, and even his eyebrows were white. The Sergeant didn't recognise him as one of the regulars, and suddenly the man stood erect with a gun in his hand, which he fired at the Sergeant!
