The Teacup Murder Case opened with the killing of Algie Cochran suspected smuggler. His murderer drank a cup of tea either before or after killing him and stealing the famous Elton diamond which Cochran brought with him. Vance knows that the Elton has been cut up in to two separate stones to prevent identification.
