The steep winding road from Denver over the top of the Rockies, crosses the Continental Divide and drops rapidly to the picturesque town of Steamboat Springs. The quiet good manners of the town today, speak well for its friendly, hospitable citizens, but in the 1870s none of this was evident on the noisy, muddy, main street of the bustling little village.
