Lum is finding that his idea of kidnapping Abner so that he might make a fake rescue in order to become a hero in Pine Ridge was a very poor one. The citizens of the town have become so aroused over the affair that they have made serious threats of what they will do to the kidnappers when caught. Lum is greatly worried that the chain of evidence will eventually lead to him as the guilty party.
