Today's story is about the reconstruction leader, Charles Caldwell. Born to slave parents circa 1932, Charles Caldwell served as a slave blacksmith until the post civil war era, when he took the reading and writing skills he had learned whilst a slave, participating in the Mississippi Constitutional Convention in 1868, championing political rights and integrated schools.
