Susan Hayes receives a letter from her dying uncle, whom she has not seen for years, asking her to come and stay with him for a few weeks. He tells her that he is disappointed in her cousin Hillary and that when she comes he is going to change his will so that she is the sole beneficiary. However before she gets to see him her uncle dies from a suspected overdose of sleeping tablets. Her sleeping tablets bottle is found empty and the letter that would prove she had no motive to kill her uncle has gone missing. She becomes the prime suspect for her uncles murder.
