The year is 1919. The place is a little town in Massachusetts called Millhampton and our heroin Stella Martin is just leaving the movie theatre with Steve Dallas, the most popular bachelor in town. He tells her that up to meeting her two weeks previously when she walked into his office at the mill and asked for a job, he was lonely and unhappy, but not anymore. When they reach her garden gate they talk and then he kisses her gently and what do you know? Before the first act ends. Yep! She’s become Mrs. Stella Dallas.
