Speckled Band, The

Broadcast: 12th November 1945
Added: Aug 21 2008

The story of the Speckled Band began on a rainy April morning in 1883. Miss Helen Stoner had sent Sherlock a letter saying that she would be calling to see him at eleven that morning and that she was a friend of Dr. Watson’s. Watson had befriended her two years ago after the sudden death of her sister Violet Stoner. The villain of the piece had been the stepfather of the girls a distinguished surgeon who had a dubious past. Violet’s death had followed closely after the announcement of her engagement and now Helen was engaged and very upset at the thought of being alone with her stepfather. Both the girls had had a trust fund that they received only while they remained unmarried so the stepfather had a lot of money to lose. Helen was convinced that her stepfather planned to murder her.
