There's a word we use quite loosely and carelessly, to designate certain persons generally considered to be idiosyncratic, if not downright peculiar. The word is 'loner'. It's of some passing interest to note here that the dictionary contains no such word. That marvellous book lists and describes however, the hermit, the recluse, and the one who gives our play it's title, the solitary.
