A few months before Jean would have dismissed the whole idea of having her fortune told as ridiculous but with marriage to a handsome young doctor just around the corner things like tearoom fortunetellers suddenly seemed important and exciting so she gave in without argument when her friend Betty suggested they leave their table and visit Madam Zortune in her alcove behind the fringed red curtains in the corner. As the old woman gazed in to her crystal and rambled on Jean found somehow she was taking it all seriously, a little too seriously…
