Life on a small ranch had not been easy for Jed Tully and his wife, Ida. They had come out to Frontier Town when Ida's mother died, and had invested their meager savings in a small spread between the center of town and the overland trail. Ida had foregone the little luxuries she would like to put in the house, because any cash they made had to go for upkeep of fences, the barn, and the ranch in general. Jed had said these things must come first, and Ida made no protest. Then one night, when Jed came home for supper, he found Ida putting up curtains in the kitchen, and a tale to tell.
