Vic Carson from State Unity Life co contacts Johnny Dollar “the man with the action packed expense account – America’s fabulous freelance insurance investigator”. He wants Johnny to investigate the murder of Bernard Slade a 56-year-old arcade operator from Venice California. Barney was found dead in the living quarters at the rear of the arcade. He appeared to be some kind of movie fan as his apartment was plastered with posters of movie greats with at least five of Mavis Gayle all of which had had a large red question mark drawn on them in crayon. Vic Carson was concerned as Mavis Gayle is the main beneficiary in Barney Slade’s will. However, Mavis Gayle denies even knowing Bernard Slade.
