Right after Pearl Harbor our navy was asked to pull up to the islands of the Pacific and to the fortress of Europe to deliver full scale invasions on shores blistering with guns pointed right down their throats. The Navy's amphibious training command invented a way to do it, created strange ships never before seen on water. Ships that deliberately headed for the shore, rammed themselves on to the beaches; ships that opened their faces and out of which rolled all the men and equipment of war. This is a story of men and women and ships of the amphibious command.
