500 million miles out in to the cold black depths of space a small rocket scout blasts across the invisible path marking the orbit of Jupiter on course to Earth. In the narrow cylindrical cockpit near the nose of the silvery ship the pilot transmits a routine call across the void and in a small metal hut on Mars the sleepy eyed operator shakes himself awake as the call crackles in his earphones…
