Lamont Cranston received an urgent call to come to Maria Montel's room only to hear her there screaming as she was stabbed to death and the killer nowhere to be seen and everything looking like Lamont was the one that killed her. Lamont Cranston suspected of the murder of the blond dancer is then accused by gangsters of killing one of their gunmen and is taken to his own garage where he is thrown in to the front seat of his automobile and left to die of monoxide poisoning.
