Cedric's innocent act of bringing two glasses of his home made root beer to the Jot 'Em Down store for Lum and Abner to sample. Each of the old fellows thought the other had poisoned one of the glasses in an imagined attempt on the others life in order to collect the life insurance money. During the juggling around of the glasses in order to avoid drinking from the ill fated one Cedric somehow drank from the supposedly poisoned glass whereupon he was hustled off to the doctors because Lum and Abner thought he was poisoned.
