On the surface nothing unusual was happening in Claymore on the afternoon our story opens. The dusty main street as is customary at that time of day was almost deserted. A cowboy returning to his home ranch unhurriedly guided his horse eastward. A few loafers dozed in front of the café others followed their example before the harness shop. A woman shopping entered the general store. It was clear that no one noticed the significance of the half dozen horses standing before the Stockman’s Bank with reins hung over their heads…
