As the Lone Ranger and Tonto raced through the pass, the men on top of the ridge opened fire on them, but Silver and Scout's speeds carried them out of danger. Once through the pass, they cut away from the main trail and reined up in a grove of trees not far from the river. The men on the ridge were ranchers, and they didn't want any new homesteaders in the area, but there's no way of knowing who is a member of the Black Arrows, and who isn't!
