Our file on Howell Lewis Marvin up to 1951 shows two arrests with one conviction. It was while serving a term at Louisburg for this conviction that Marvin's taste in literature bore criminal fruit, for it was here that he met another book minded prisoner named Leonard F Perkins. Perkins was a rough and tumble customer, in jail for sending obscene publications through the mail, and his and Marvin's joint release from Louisburg turned their warped detention to what has become known as the sleaziest racket in the book!
