Patricia her mother and her daughter Jeanie are driving to Oregon to relocate as her husband has a new job. They hear on the news that a woman has been murdered after her car has broken down. When they stop at a diner for a break they meet a charming man named Mr Barnet who Jeanie has waved to several times as they past him on the road. Later when their car breaks down Patricia goes for help. Mr Barnet sees the stranded car and Patricia's mother asks him if he can go and help her daughter and then fears that he may be the murderer.
