Danny Clover is at the city morgue with Mr Larson, who is there to identify a body, who the police believe may be their fourteen year old daughter, Ruth. She was badly beaten to death and her skull fractured with the butt of a gun, and her father is enraged when he sees her. Danny needs to find out the motive, and who is responsible.
