In the early days of our west, the main stay of the cattle industry was the Texas Longhorn. But with the coming of the railroad came the demand for better beef, and a rancher near the town of Sheridan, Wyoming, turned his attention to Oregon cattle. Paul Crockett pioneered the 1200 mile trail drive, which history records felt the hooves of as many as one million cattle annually between 1875 and 1884!
