If you listened to the episode originally broadcast on 11th March 1956 you'll know Hattie Pelfrey is a mean old woman in most people’s eye but she did once save Lee Quince’s life and he promised if he was in her part of Texas again he would let her have his late mothers earrings. The diamond earrings were the only things his mother had ever owned and Lee wanted Hattie to have them.

Now Quince is in her part of Texas but when he drops in he discovers she is not there and her home unlived in. He fears she may have died until someone turns up at the Fort hospital claiming to be his mother.
