Lee Atherton's day is changed irrevocably when he glances out of the window and sees a woman, standing out on a hotel ledge threatening to jump. Behind her at the window is a psychiatrist, who assures him that all is well, and that the woman is being treated for insanity, and for a moment he believes him - why wouldn't he? So why can't he get the woman's face out of his mind? Or the words that she said? Against his better judgement, he decides to find her...
