Barbara Stanwyck plays the part of Lee Leander, reprising her 1940 Paramount Pictures film role under the screen director Mitchell Leisen. This is a delighful comedy drama romance in which starts just before Christmas in a high class jewelers where the beautiful Lee Leander is caught shoplifting an expensive bracelet. She is no first offender and prosecutor John Sergeant is determined to have her convicted. He postpones the trial until after Christmas because he knows a jury full of Christmas goodwill will not convict her. Then feeling sorry for her he takes her home to spend Christmas with his mother.

To the brilliant young prosecutor John Sergeant the difference between right and wrong had always been clearly defined but now he was no longer sure. Somehow his theories had backfired.
